Every freelancer has a graveyard of half-built side projects. Mine included. The projects that survived shared the same handful of habits, and none of them involved working weekends or heroic effort.
Shrink the scope until it feels trivial
The first version should embarrass you slightly. A side project that does one thing for a handful of users teaches more than an ambitious platform that never launches. I cut every initial plan in half, then cut it in half again.
Fix the rhythm, not the hours
Ninety minutes, three evenings a week, beats a monthly marathon every time. Fixed rhythms remove the daily negotiation with yourself, and stopping mid-task gives the next session a running start. Momentum is a schedule, not a mood.
