overview

PulseFit runs four boutique gyms and was losing members after the third month. Trainers suspected the gap between sessions was the problem: members trained alone, lost momentum and cancelled. I built the app side of the answer — programmes, streaks and trainer check-ins that keep members engaged between visits.

challenge

Gym apps compete with everything else on the phone, so every extra tap costs users. The app had to log a full session in under a minute, work offline in basement gyms with no signal, and sync cleanly when the connection returned.

approach

I designed a one-thumb logging flow with sensible defaults and rest timers, built offline-first sync with conflict resolution, and gave trainers a dashboard showing streaks at risk so they can check in before a member drifts away.

what was included

  • One-thumb session logging with rest timers
  • Offline-first sync for low-signal gym floors
  • Streaks and personal records to sustain momentum
  • Trainer dashboard flagging at-risk members

outcome

Trainers report that check-ins now happen with context instead of guesswork, and members arrive at sessions with their history already logged. The offline mode survived its first basement-gym test without a single lost workout.
